Kellan Moss is a scientific illustrator from the Pacific Northwest, currently located in Rochester, NY.
Since early childhood, Kellan has had a drive and love for STEAM. With a strong passion for Biology and the fine arts, she found love in, the often grotesque subject, Medical Illustration.
Kellan is set to graduate at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 2028 with a Bachelor’s in Medical Illustration.
She is well known in her city as an art vendor, photographer, and volunteer. She has previously worked as a professional photographer, but now frequents photographing house shows as a hobby. During her time in the PNW, Kellan spent much of her time selling art prints on the street and markets around her city, or working as a teacher and child care worker.
When she is not seen around her city, Kellan can be found trading art online, drawing live surgeries, researching Sci-Fi media, or self teaching a new skill, such as animation.
When not working on art, Kellan will fill her time volunteering anywhere, and everywhere.
In 2023, Kellan began working for IODP, sailing aboard the JOIDES Resolution (JR) as an Onboard Outreach Officer (OOO) for Expedition 401, as an illustrator. She continues to work with their science party today.
Kellan’s artwork explores the unique and specific environments within the STEM world. Her work often showcases the unseen details of scientific work within their field.
She hopes to work with scientists of all varieties and provide the necessary translation of bringing science to non-expert audiences.
In addition to exploring the science world, Kellan loves to push the boundaries of traditional art. She often mixes impossible mediums together to create new collages of work that form a modern twist to the fine arts. Her work features anything from soft pastels to yard sale stickers to hand sewn thread through the canvas. Kellan’s digital work continues this mixture as she is seen repeatedly drawing on top of her own photography.
